Peer Support Group for MU Teachers

A second online Peer Support Group for MU members who teach.

Starting Tuesday 2nd May (4:30-6:00pm), Tonic Rider in partnership with the Musicians' Union and Help Musicians, will be delivering a second online six-week Peer Support Group exclusively for MU members who teach.

The Peer Support Group aims to support music teachers by providing an open space for them to share their experiences of working in teaching and music and is the second group of its kind to be delivered, after the success of the first in Autumn 2022. Adam Ficek (psychotherapist) will again be facilitating the group, who himself is a music teacher.

Chris Walters from the MU commented 'Since the pandemic‭, ‬requests for mental health support have risen significantly among musicians‭, ‬and teachers can be particularly affected‭. ‬Teaching can be isolating and tiring‭; ‬pay and conditions are often not what they should be‭; ‬and long periods of teaching online can be debilitating‭. ‬We hope that this peer support group will help teachers navigate some of these challenges and their‭ ‬consequences‭.‬'
